Parsippany Express Relay Team Places First
Members of the Parsippany Express (Bantam) 4 x100 Relay Team placed 1st at the USATF New Jersey State Association Championships held on Sunday, June 14.
The top four finishers at this event qualified for the Regional Championships in Jamestown, New York on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13.
The relay team of Marcus Workman, Noah Massillon, Kamrin Foxworth and Jeffery Okudah ran an impressive 58.82 seconds to win the USATF Bantam New Jersey State Championship race.
In addition to the relay win, Marcus Workman won the 100-meter New Jersey State Championship (13.69 seconds) and Jeffery Okudah placed second in the 100-meter dash (13.99 seconds).
Okudah will be doing triple duty in Jamestown as he also won the 200-meter New Jersey State Championship race.
The top three finishers at the Regional in Jamestown will go on to compete at the USATF Junior Olympics in Greensboro, North Carolina from July 28 through August 2.
To qualify to compete at the New Jersey Association meet, the boys first had to place in the top five at one of the Preliminary meets held in May. Bantams are youth athletes born from 1999 to 2000.
This Championship meet also served as the inaugural event for the newly formed Morris County Track Club. The club was organized to enable Morris County sprinters, middle distance runners and field athletes the opportunity to join a team and compete in national competitions like the premier track and field event for youth, the USATF Junior Olympics. Most town-based track seasons have ended just before the USATF preliminaries begin.
Coach Antonio Workman who founded the organization stated, βin just the first few weeks of existence we have produced two individual state champions and one championship relay team. We are off to a great start but we could not have done this without the support we receive from so many individuals and groups here in Parsippany. Now young sprinters, middle distance and field athletes can continue team competition well into the summer months. We start up when the Lakeland Youth Track & Field season ends. For more information on the Morris County Track Club visit their website at www.mctrackclub.org.
We especially want to thank Parsippany Express Coaches, Jean Massillon, Jim Fox, Maurice Saunders and Ellen Carter for their hard work and support.β The Parsippany Express are proud members of the Lakeland Youth Track & Field Association, which holds events from April through early June. Thanks to Pam Fales of the New Jersey USATF New Jersey, Terry Corigliano, Bursar/Facility Coordinator Parsippany High School and Ryan D. Miller, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Parsippany High School.
